What's Up Wednesday - October 2017

1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:

Shay's new cookbook Simmers is on repeat at our house! I am a huge fan of the simple dinners in my slow cooker. A lot of times, I cook overnight & then reheat for a quick dinner. So far my favorite has been the slow cooker pulled pork!
2. WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:

As we're gearing up for Halloween, I am reminiscing about how adorable they always look in costume! I wasn't ever a big Halloween person before kids, but it's just one of my faves now!

3: WHAT I’M LOVING:

I know some people will find this totally disgusting but I LOVE Mallowcream Pumpkins. I have to carefully ration my intake this time of year. Candy corn I can totally do without, but those little pumpkins have my heart.

4: WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:

October is always a crazy month because it means competition, competition, competition. I feel like my life revolves around cheer this month. Luckily, we're been able to squeeze in some family time too though with a visit from my parents, a trip to the pumpkin farm, and ZooBoo.
5: WHAT I’M DREADING:

So, as I'm writing this post, I'm currently dreading the jury summons that is sitting next to me. I am well aware that it is my civic duty, I just really hate writing sub plans!
6: WHAT I’M WORKING ON:

Because I'm a crazy person, I decided to take over the Show Choir at our elementary school this year. I loved Show Choir in high school & think it's such a great activity, so when our old adviser retired last year, I actually jumped at the chance. I know my coaching days are limited, so I think this will be a more manageable way of channeling my passion in the future :) Right now, I'm picking songs for us to perform at the holiday concert & getting ready to start rehearsals after Veteran's Day!
7: WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:

We have two weekend getaways planned for November. The first is to Pittsburgh to visit our friends who recently renovated their whole house! I am so excited to see it because last time we visited, they had just signed papers & we were scouring Ikea together for kitchen inspiration. I've seen the transformation via SnapChat, but can't wait to see it in person!

The second trip is with my sister (& our little girl squad) to Virginia for a long weekend with my parents! Britt is my favorite person to road trip with because we're generally on the same page about everything from stopping for coffee to the temperature of the car to the type of music we listen to. It will be a lot of driving, but it's always worth it to see Mom & Dad.
8: WHAT I’M WATCHING & READING:

The Good Place: Season One

I just finished Season 1 of The Good Place & now I'm watching it weekly on NBC. I love both Kristen Bell & Ted Danson, but the storyline is what kept me watching. It's such a clever show! It's on right before Will & Grace, which I'm so excited is back too. I feel like they picked up right where they left off. And of course, the last season of Scandal has me on the edge of my seat!!

As far as my reading goes, I've been very busy since the start of the school year! I have officially finished the entire Harry Potter series, which I loved. I had been plugging away all last spring, but forced myself to take a break about mid-May. I decided to finish the series this fall & just loved it. I have no idea why I didn't read these sooner, but I know I'll definitely read them again. Hopefully even with Ella & Livy one day!

I also read Cancel The Wedding - which I adored! Shay recommended it awhile ago and when my sister offered to let me borrow it for our trip to Dallas, I jumped at the chance. It was fantastic. To read Shay's review of it, click here
9: WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:

Bruno Mars is on repeat around here. If you've seen my InstaStory, then you know that my girls LOVE to dance! We're always throwing on some dance party tunes & Bruno fits the bill. Current favorite - Perm
10: WHAT I’M WEARING:

The weather here in NY has been crazy. One moment it's 75 & sunny, the next it's 35 & so windy that you can barely make it to your car. And both of those moments can be in the same day too. So, I've been wearing a lot of layered transitional outfits.

First up, I wore this outfit to go shopping with my mom & sister two weekends ago. I have been loving these green pants as an alternative to jeans!
pants - J.Crew (similar) // sandals - Sam Edelman // shirt - BP by Nordstrom // both necklaces - Stella & Dot
I like to call this next photo - "Friday AM Bathroom Selfie." The school bathroom is most definitely not the prettiest place to take a photo, but I'm in love with this cardigan, so I wanted to share it with you all! It's from Old Navy Active & it is so soft! I love that it has a hood, is drapey, and is a great cross between navy & black!

jeans - Old Navy // sandals - Birkenstock // tee - Old Navy // jacket - Old Navy (similar)
How cute is my little photobomber in this pic? My niece, Madigan, rides to daycare with us a few days a week & she crawled right into the shot yesterday! I just love her little spiky hair!

jeans - J.Crew // sandals - Birkenstock // tee - Old Navy // jacket - H&M (similar)
And I should note - I'm wearing sandals in all 3 of these pictures, because I'm stretching sandal season as long as possible. But I've been wearing booties a lot too, and I'll probably have to pack all of my sandals up for storage this weekend since the weather is about to take a turn. #sayitaintso
11: WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:

This weekend is a busy one! We have Sectionals on Saturday, and then on Sunday we're taking the girls to Zoo Boo! I think we're going to try to squeeze some pumpkin carving in there on Saturday night too!
12: WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays for three reasons:

1 - food
2 - family
3 - Black Friday follows it :)

13: WHAT ELSE IS NEW:
Eric recently took a new position at work & I'm so proud of him! He will be traveling more often, so that might add some chaos to morning routines, but I am happy for him because he works so hard!
Have a wonderful Wednesday!
