As anticipated, we had a jam packed Mother's Day weekend! We started the party when my parents arrived in town on Friday night & we all went to Sonic for ice cream. It was still 80 degrees at 8:30 p.m. when they arrived and Sonic was a madhouse, but it was totally worth it because OMG was it good!
Saturday morning was an early one. Ella was just so excited that Grammy & Gramps were here that she woke up at 5:30. I decided to take advantage & we headed out for a walk. It was 75 degrees by 6:30 a.m. - absolute heaven. She watched cartoons on my phone & I took in the quiet around our neighborhood. Perfect start to the day!
My dad & Eric had a tee time scheduled & my sister was working an event for the Junior League, so I knew that I'd have my mom to myself. She got to my house around 8, we finished getting Ella ready, and then we headed off to do some shopping! We found tons of great stuff at Target for Ella & I picked out a new beach bag that will be part of my birthday present (less than a month away!).
After shopping, we met my Aunt Babs & Grandma at the Cheesecake Factory. I knew I'd be eating out again for dinner, so I shared a plate of Cajun Chicken Littles with Babs, then all of us shared a piece of Lemon Meringue Cheesecake! It was so insanely good!
After lunch, everyone else headed off to my sister's event, but they don't allow children, so I took this peanut back home for a nap. She was passed out within 2 minutes of me putting the car in drive...
When Gramps & Eric came back from golfing, they ate a quick lunch, then installed a ceiling fan in Ella's room. After that, we met everyone else at Aunt Britt's & headed off to McGregor's - our favorite - for dinner. I had my favorite steak salad, which was eaten in shifts as Eric & I took turns wrangling our overtired toddler. Thankfully, my parents volunteered to take her back to Britt's with them for the night & let us get some solid sleep. And sleep I did because rain + air conditioning + no toddler = best night sleep I've had in ages.
I woke up to a text from my mom asking if I was coming to walk with them, so I hopped out of bed & threw on my workout clothes. OK, actually I was basically in my workout clothes...
We walked to Ella's favorite playground so that she could show it to Gramps! They had the best time :)
After the playground, Gramps & Eric went to golf again. So... the rest of us got dressed & went to shop again. I got to ride in the back with this diva...
We picked up some supplies at Target, then went over to the mall. My mom had some returns to make & my sister picked up a new jean jacket. I tried on some things, but this belly is just getting ridiculous, so I'm holding out. The only thing I bought all day was a bag of Princess Goldfish & two GapFit tanks that were on major clearance & just happened to fit over my belly perfectly - with room to grow. Total purchases - less than $15.
Since we'd ate two big meals the day before & my parents were going to spend 4 hours driving back that afternoon, we decided our Mother's Day meal would be subs! This is actually my mom's favorite sub shop - she loves their diced chicken subs - so it worked out perfectly!
Once Grammy & Gramps hit the road, we came back to our house to take naps & play in the yard. I was trying to get some sun, but somebody stole my spot...
We were supposed to grill steaks on Sunday night, but flash floods threw a kink in our plans. So... we cooked everything inside & finished off the weekend with homemade ice cream sundaes!
And just because I'm feeling nostalgic... here's last year's Mother's Day picnic from the archives :)
