In The Swing of Things...

One of my favorite trends for summer is the swing dress. I love the laid back feel and the breeziness of the extra fabric. They can be dressed up or down, and in my case - worn during or after this baby finally arrives! Here are a few that I absolutely love!

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5

1 - I personally own this dress & am wearing it on repeat right now! I like to pair it with my black Michael Kors sandals & my neon yellow Kendra Scott Rayne necklace. It's a simple outfit to throw on when it's hot as can be, but I need to look pulled together.

2 - This dress from Anthro is definitely the most expensive of the group, but if I had an event to attend I'd be splurging on it. I've felt it in store & it's exquisite. I also loved how Northeast Girl styled it with a jean jacket over her bump last week!

3 - This dress is super boho & adorable - and it's ON SALE. So if you're looking for an affordable option, this is for you!

4 - Loving the bright color of this dress! It's on the short list for a few post - baby functions that I have lined up. (I'm just waiting to see how soon Miss Olivia arrives before I order anything.)

5 - I just ordered this swing dress from American Eagle. It has a triangle cut-out in the upper back that I just love & I know I'll be wearing it all summer long. I found it through the fab Aubrey Kinch, who has been rocking it post-baby too!

Bumpdate: 32 Weeks

So before I get into the normal update, I should probably catch you all up on a few things. I had a doctor's appointment last Thursday & found out two important things. A) My blood pressure is slowly starting to creep up again, which is a sign that preeclampsia may be in the cards this time around too. The good news there is that I'm not swelling & there's no protein in my urine. So for now, we're still ok there. B) Olivia was measuring small, which wasn't a huge deal because Ella was a small baby, but they wanted to do an ultrasound to check my fluid levels & make sure that everything was going as it should in there. Of course, with the long weekend, an ultrasound wasn't possible until Tuesday morning. That meant a "request" from my doctor to take it easy over the weekend, and an overprotective husband hovering over me from Thursday until Tuesday. Good news though, all is well & I'm proceeding as planned. Still working, still exercising, and my blood pressure has actually gone down a smidge :)

size of the baby:  According to The Bump, she's the size of a squash & between 15.2 and 16.8 inches. According to our ultrasound on Tuesday, she's weighing in at about 3 lbs. 13 oz.

total weight gain:  21.5 lbs - which doesn't surprise me after I ate absolutely anything I wanted over Memorial Day weekend

gender: Baby Girl - Miss Olivia Rose

movement: Lots. She's very busy in there! During my ultrasound I could see her playing with her hands & kicking her feet :)

missing: A good night's sleep. Between heartburn & being uncomfortable/hot, I'm just not getting the rest I need. With Ella, I took naps after school & that helped immensely, but that's just not in the cards with a toddler running around the house.

craving: Ice cream.

exercise: I took it down a notch last week & really relaxed over the long weekend. I didn't track my calories on Saturday & Sunday and I didn't worry about hitting my step goal either. I was right back at it on Monday, feeling recharged, and I feel like I gave my body the little break it needed.

symptoms: I am having a little discomfort with my sciatic nerve towards the end of the day, but nothing intolerable. And like I said, I'm not sleeping as well as I'd like. Overall, these are relatively small concerns in comparison to my heartburn that just. won't. quit. I know Olivia is squished in there & it won't be going away until she drops, so I'm just sucking it up until then...

best moments:
  • my ultrasound
  • all the sunshine this past weekend
  • popsicles - any moment involving a popsicle makes me happy right now

4 Ways to Hold Yourself Accountable While Pregnant

Track What You Eat

I've tracked what I ate throughout my second pregnancy with MyFitnessPal. I would say that I do it religiously, but not obsessively. If I go over a bit one day, it's not the end of the world. If anything, it makes me pause before I put something in my mouth. Sometimes just knowing how many calories a food has before you stuff your face with it is a huge help. I also think this is going to help me lose the weight once I have the baby, as calorie tracking is already such a part of my daily routine.
Document Your Transformation

With my first daughter, I took next to zero pictures - and I regret it. This time around, I've taken at least one photo of myself every week so that I can see how my body is slowly changing. It's helpful to put things in perspective & I know I'll enjoy looking back at them when this journey ends.
Count Your Steps

I got a FitBit Flex for Christmas & have worn it every day since. It's really eye opening to see how active you REALLY are. I thought I was a pretty active person before, but it turns out there were some days I was actually pretty lazy. Since I haven't been running throughout my pregnancy, my goal is to hit 10,000 steps & 5 miles each day. Some days that's a struggle, others it's no problem at all. What's important though, is it keeps me active!

Share Your Goals with Your Doctor

My doctor has been one of my biggest cheerleaders throughout my pregnancy. I set very firm, yet realistic goals for myself and she has been extremely supportive. My goals were simple - I wanted to keep my weight gain between 25 and 30 pounds, keep my blood pressure down, and remain as active/fit as possible throughout my entire pregnancy. She knows these things are important to me, so at every appointment we discuss them. Just knowing we're going to have the conversation gives me an extra boost of accountability!
Find a Pregnant Friend

In some cases, this is easier said than done. Depending on timing, you may not have any friends or co-workers who are also pregnant. I currently have two people in my life who are also pregnant & even though our goals are different, we all support each other. But not all of my support comes from face to face conversations - some of my greatest inspiration has come from other moms - to - be sharing their experiences on their blogs & Instagram accounts. Don't be afraid to reach out {in real life or online} because most people are thrilled to have a support system!

Memorial Day Weekend 2015

Our weekend was the perfect blend of family, food, and relaxing! We spent Saturday at a BBQ at Eric's dad's house & I got to hang out with these cuties...

All of their hats are from Target & I just couldn't resist forcing them to sit still for a photo for me!

Ella played some tee ball, while her Daddy & Grandpa Dan manned the grill...

It was absolutely gorgeous outside & we enjoyed every minute of the sunshine.

This is where the BBQ photos end though, because I apparently enjoyed the sunshine a little too much & I think I ended up with sun poisoning. I was so sick. I laid down at 5:30 & slept til 8, woke up feeling cooled down & a bit better. But by then Ella was exhausted, so I skipped the bonfire & laid in bed watching Disney Jr. with her. I would've been upset, but we didn't have s'mores supplies & that's the only reason I usually deal with the smell of campfire, so it all worked out.

The next day, we woke up and had some breakfast pizza before heading to my parents' country house. I was back to feeling 100%, so I put on a ton of sunscreen, my pool coverup, & laid "poolside" for the afternoon - while chugging tons of water under Eric's watchful eye.

We had a BBQ with my side of the family that evening, but I was too busy to take any pictures. The food was delicious though & it's always nice to see my grandparents! I was in bed by 8:30 again, and slept like the dead.

On Monday morning, I took Ella to my alma mater's track to get some cardio in before it got too hot. She watched some cartoons while I got in two and a half miles, we were both happy campers :)

Then, we came back to my parents' to get ready for the day. When I got out of the shower, I found Ella in the dining room doing some "painting." You better believe we had a serious conversation about how we don't really paint (or color) on walls.

We ate leftovers for lunch & then headed back to Rochester. Ella wanted to ride in Grandpa's truck & go to her Aunt Britt's, so that left me with some time to get our house in order for the week ahead. I ran to Wegmans for groceries, started laundry, & unpacked. Then, I went over to my sister's to find that Ella should have packed her hard hat!

She helped her Gramps finish Aunt Britt's gate, then we headed home for some gourmet frozen pizza & baths. The perfect end to the weekend if you ask me!

Friday Favorites for Memorial Day

Yay for Friday! Yay for the start of summer! Yay for a long weekend!

In case you didn't notice, I'm just a little enthusiastic today... Ella spent the night at her Grammy Nancy's last night so I got ready in complete peace & quiet. Then, I came to work to find out that my "work husband" got engaged to the sweetest girl ever! I'm so excited for him!!

Since Ella is already in our hometown for the weekend, Eric & I are going to go out to dinner tonight & to run some baby errands by ourselves. We're both in full-on nesting mode right now & are trying to get some things checked off our list without a toddler in tow.

Tomorrow morning, I plan to get up & get my cardio in. Then, we'll pack & head off to celebrate Memorial Day weekend in our hometown with our families! Since I love Memorial Day & all things patriotic, I thought I'd share my favorites for the holiday!

I'm in charge of dessert for our BBQ at Eric's dad's tomorrow night. I wanted to make something festive and somewhat healthy. I've made this for the 4th of July before & it was a huge hit, so I plan to whip it up again. I love all the fruit for the kiddos & angel food cake just screams summer desserts to me!

I'm not in charge of bringing anything to my mom's BBQ, but if I was, this would be it! I absolutely love how festive this taco salad is! I know it'd be a huge hit with my side!

I just love this festive little romper for Miss Ella from Gap! I think it will look adorable with her white slides!

My favorite store, J.Crew Factory, is having 50% off this weekend! Here are a few of my favorite festive pieces...

I also think this blue maxi dress would be a great outfit choice! I tried it on in the store & it's so super soft. I held out on it because I wasn't sure what size to buy, but I'm holding out hope that it'll still be available once Olivia arrives!

Bumpdate: 31 Weeks

size of the baby: a pineapple

total weight gain: 20.5 lbs.

gender: Baby Girl - Miss Olivia Rose

movement: still lots of movement, mostly in the evenings, but occasionally while I'm at my desk working or driving throughout the day

missing: all of my festive, patriotic clothing! Eric & I normally go all out for Memorial Day & the Fourth, but none of my normal clothes fit. My plan B overcompensate with patriotic recipes instead.

craving: Sweets. I'm doing my best to eat them in moderation, but I'm real close to buying a can of frosting & eating it with a spoon.

exercise: I'm slowing down just a little bit this week. I managed to log 34 miles, but on Monday, I just had to sit & put my feet up. It was 85 & humid, so I didn't want to push it too hard. On other days though, I've been feeling great & looking forward to my nightly walks. So, I'll just keep taking it day by day.

symptoms: Olivia is definitely pressing on my bladder & my lungs - at the same time. It makes going upstairs a chore, and unfortunately that's where our bathroom is at home. #catch22

As I've mentioned earlier this week, Olivia has a closet! We hemmed & hawed over plans for weeks & finally decided to do an open shelf with a hanging rod. There simply just isn't enough space to build in a real closet. I really like how it turned out though & baby clothes are the cutest to look at! I'm currently searching for the perfect baskets to go on the shelf, where I plan to store extra sheets, blankets, wipes, diapers, etc.

looking forward to:
  • This is my last {planned} weekend away from home! We're hitting up all sides of the family for Memorial Day & I'm really excited to see everyone!
  • Finishing up the school year. I still have 19 school days until final exams begin, but things are slowly getting checked off my to - do list!

What's Up Wednesday

1 - What We're Eating This Week...

We're grilling up everything in sight around here! On Sunday night we had BBQ porkchops, Monday it was hot dogs,  & Tuesday was grilled steak for Fajitas! We're all about the grill.

2 - What I'm Reminiscing About...

On Sunday morning, I took Ella out to run errands & have lunch while daddy was golfing. It got me reminiscing about the past two summers where it's been just the two of us...

We've had so much fun together & it really started to hit me that a lot of our little day trips won't be possible this summer. I know we'll get into a new routine & before we know it we'll be a jolly little threesome, but it's definitely going to be an adjustment.

3 - What I'm Loving...

I'm kind of in love with Sun Bum sunscreen. I had been seeing it everywhere - including Madewell, which I thought was interesting - and decided to give it a try. It's more expensive than what I normally buy, but I decided that if I bought the actual lotion versus the spray, it'd even out in price. I swear, we can go through a bottle of spray on sunscreen in a day around here! You can get it at Target or Nordstrom or Madewell apparently, and it smells SO good!

4 - What We've Been Up To...

As Ella would say... "just playing." Our daily routine is pretty engrained at this point - we go to school, I work all day while Ella is at Miss Jennie's, I pick her up right after work, she goes home to play in the yard while I do a little housework, Eric gets home & we make dinner, we all take a walk, then finish the day off with baths & TV time before bed. Of course there are a bunch of little things thrown in there that make each day special & unique, but for the most part, we're "just playing."

5 - What I'm Dreading...

I'm dreading all of the paperwork that goes along with the end of the school year. I'm busting my butt right now to finish creating finals & review packets, plus other fun stuff like evaluated goals for IEPs. I'm trying to be as proactive about it all as possible, but clearly I'm procrastinating as I'm sitting here typing this blog post instead of working on the final exam. #oops

6 - What I'm Working On...

My major project right now is Olivia's nursery! We're still making slow progress, but it's all starting to come together. We just added a "closet" to her room & I got to hang up all of her baby clothes. That also mean I could finally wash & put away all of Ella's hand-me-downs... which could really go into the what I'm reminiscing section too because it made me an absolute puddle of emotions seeing how tiny she used to be!

7 - What I'm Excited About...

Two things: 24 school days until summer vacation & 58 days until my due date!

8 - What I'm Watching...

I watch Dancing With the Stars pretty religiously & am so sad another season is over. My mom & I are huge Derek Hough fans, so we were really disappointed to see him & Natsia go home last week, but I still loved every minute of the finale!

9 - What I'm Listening To...

I've been listening to Zac Brown Radio on iTunes lately - I just love the laid back vibe of the station. I'm a country girl at heart...

10 - What I'm Wearing...

At work, I'm wearing dresses.

At home, I'm wearing jean shorts & my favorite loose tees.

OK, that's a lie, at home I'm wearing yoga pants.

11 - What I'm Doing This Weekend...

Since it's Memorial Day Weekend, we'll be traveling for the last time before my due date. Ella is leaving on Thursday night to go spend some time with Eric's mom, and the rest of us (including Charlie) will leave on Saturday morning. We're hitting up all 3 sides of the family & it's going to be a busy weekend, but it's the sort of busy that involves lots of food & playing with babies, so I'll be a happy girl!

12 - What I'm Looking Forward to in the Next Month...

This Weekend We...

I have no idea how it is Monday morning already! Our weekend just flew by & I can't believe we packed this much fun into 48 short hours! This weekend we...

  • Went on lots of walks - gotta get those steps in!

  • Had our cousin over to play!

  • Went out to lunch with Grammy Mary & Grandpa Dan!

  • Installed a new closet for Olivia.

  • Played some "drums" on Mommy's bed.

  • Made brownie sundaes.

  • Took a trip to Target & Old Navy to stock up on the essentials and buy a baby gift for a sweet work friend.
  • Had lunch at Sonic.

  • Danced on the patio while we waited for our food.

  • Ate ice cream.

  • Laid in the sun & read a magazine.
  • Grilled a healthy dinner.
  • Cleaned our basement.
Here's hoping that our week flies by just as fast as the weekend did! There's a three day holiday in sight people - we can do this!

Friday Favorites

Let's just start by praising Jesus that today is Pajama Day at my middle school! There is no faster way to a pregnant lady's heart than a Pajama Day...

(insert picture here because I actually look really cute, but  sadly couldn't  get a decent picture on my own...)

Other Favorites from This Week...

1 - Flamingos

I can't seem to get enough of flamingo print this year! I have bought quite a bit of it for Miss Ella & have been looking for a simple, more understated way to add it to my own wardrobe. When I came across this scarf, I knew it was perfect - except for the price. Luckily, Cassie found this one that I love & it's way more affordable!

splurge // save
2 - Cheering for a Cause

Yesterday afternoon I took our Varsity cheerleaders to cheer for our district's Unified Basketball game. Unified Basketball is a league set up in our county to provide students with mental disabilities to participate in team sports. Watching these kids play was amazing. Their level of excitement & pride was just amazing. The girls were really inspired by it too & we're going to look into setting up a mentor cheer program to accompany our team next year! I just love it when I see kids getting involved in a great cause!

3 - Athleta's Summer Line

I went into Athleta last weekend to torture myself return something with my mom. I am so in love with their whole summer line & hoping there is still some great stuff up for grabs (and maybe even on sale) after I have the baby. For the rest of you, they're having free two day shipping today! So if you need any new gear or a new swimsuit, definitely take advantage!

4 - More Torture at Madewell

I tortured myself with a trip into my mall's brand new Madewell store last weekend too. I fell in love with this dress. It's on sale, so if anyone wants to send it to me for my birthday, I'd be totally ok with that...

Bumpdate: 30 Weeks

my outfit from shopping on Sunday

size of the baby: cucumber & about 2.5 to 3.8 lbs.

total weight gain: 19 lbs. - my goal for the pregnancy is to stay within 25 & 30 lbs, so I'm right on track

gender: Baby Girl - Miss Olivia Rose

maternity clothes: I found two tanks at GapFit on the clearance rack that should fit me until the end. I know I'm not supposed to be shopping for myself, but they were less than $12 total! I couldn't pass them up...

movement: Lots & lots of movement. She loves it when I sit down!

missing: Nothing really...

craving: Mexican. I could eat Moe's every day.

exercise: I logged 35 miles last week & feel really good about that!

symptoms: I'm no longer wearing my rings. I'm not really swelling all that much, but they've just been really annoying me, which leads to me taking them off & setting them down. I know that's a recipe for disaster, so I put them up for safekeeping.

On an unrelated note, I've had a wicked sinus thing going on for the past couple of days. I can't take anything besides basic Tylenol, so I took the day off yesterday & stayed home to sleep. Feeling a little better today, but that reminds me - I'm missing C0-Advil!

nursery: Nothing new to report in the nursery, but I did get the swing completely cleaned up & put together again. And in Ella's room, we (and by we - I mean Eric & my dad) installed a ceiling fan because it was definitely the warmest room in the house last week!

looking forward to:
  • Eric's dad is coming up & installing Olivia's closet this weekend! That makes me excited because it means that I can hang all of her adorable clothes!
  • I have nothing planned on Sunday & can't wait to just relax!

best moments:
  • Mother's Day was fabulous. I loved having my mom here for the weekend & just spending time with her & my sister made me so happy.
