On Our Way Back...

Well, the time has come & we're on our way back to NY. I always feel like vacation goes too fast - who doesn't - but this year's beach trip moved at warp speed. Between the waves & the pool, shopping & eating... it was just the best week. I'll be back to do a full recap of our vacation on Monday, but in the mean time, here's some vacation snapshots courtesy of Instagram.

What I'm Wearing at the Beach...

My coverup. I've been living in it. I basically get up, run, shower, put on my swimsuit, beach/pool all day long, then change into my PJs. Yes, we've gone to dinner once & to the outlets too, but my coverup is where it's at 75% of the time.

The one night that we've gone to dinner so far was spent in my beloved romper! It's my absolute fave, especially when it's 95 & sunny...

Got to run... Ella just went down for her nap & my lounge chair beckons!

Leopard Flats

I haven't been able to stop thinking about these flats since Shaeffer posted them a month ago! I swear, I was wearing leopard flats in my dreams... but $80 for flats just isn't in the cards for me right now, so I've focused a ton of energy on finding the perfect pair to satisfy my leopard lust - within my budget.

I looked all over my favorite sites, but nothing that spoke to me was realistic. Then... these happened.

I ended up stumbling across the perfect leopard loafers on Poshmark! People - they were $8!! I hemmed & hawed, because I just wasn't sure how I felt about buying used, but then I rationalized that I sell my stuff all the time! And once I messaged the seller, I found out that her feet grew while she was pregnant & never went back - so they've barely been worn! They're still Steve Madden, just last season, which is more than fine with me.

So now that my quest to find the perfect leopard flats is over, I've redirected my efforts to finding as many fall outfits to wear them with as possible! Here's what I've found so far...

Can You Tell Me How to Get...

It feels like forever ago... but Miss Ella's birthday party was just three weeks ago. And since those three weeks have been a complete blur for us, I'm just getting around to posting about it. #whoops

As you've probably figured out, the theme for Ella's party this year was Sesame Street, inspired by her love of all things Elmo. We had actually gone to a similar birthday party for one of her BFFs earlier this year, so I got tons of ideas from that. But of course, Pinterest was my ultimate inspiration!

We had originally planned to keep it small, with my just my immediate family, then have another small party at Eric's mom's the next day. But, in the end, we invited everyone to my parent's house & I'm so glad we did! Ella loved having all of her favorite people in one place, especially when they were singing to her!

My family loves to BBQ, but grilling at the party can be hectic. I didn't want to put that on Eric or my dad, so I opted for pulled pork instead. I cooked it in the crockpot the day before & it turned out so good. The rest of our menu for the party was...

  • Apps:
    • Bert & Ernie in Their Blankies
    • Rosita's Queso & Salsa
    • Big Bird's Nests (Tostitos Scoops)
    • Veggie Platter
  • Dinner:
    • Pulled Pork Sandwiches
    • Snuffy's Salt Potatoes
    • Mr. Noodle's Mac & Cheese
    • Fruit Salad
    • Wiggle Jiggle Jello Salad
  • Dessert:
    • Cake
    • Abby Cadabby's Magic Wands

Opening gifts took absolutely forever this year! She just wanted to play with everything that she opened, and I felt so mean pushing her onto the next item. It eventually got to the point where I put the gifts from Eric & I aside & had her open them on her actual birthday.

And one of my favorite little touches from the party was our "photo booth." I didn't actually set up a backdrop, but I put the props out for people to snap photos with. It took a little prompting (and a little booze), but once people started it was really fun!

The highlight of the party, for me at least, was singing Happy Birthday to Ella. OMG she LOVED it! Once we finished, she started yelling "MORE MORE"... so we sang it again. And when we finished the second time, she yelled "ITSY"... so we sang her The Itsy Bitsy Spider. Homegirl was in heaven. She would've let us go on all night if Eric hadn't ended the madness!

And in case you're looking to throw a Sesame Street party of your own, here's the list of vendors that I used!

Friday Favorites: Suitcase Edition

Our house is in complete chaos at the moment! We're leaving for the beach tonight & I worked at school today! That means that I spent all day yesterday packing & running last minute errands. The good news is Ella & I are completely packed. The bad news is Eric hasn't even brought his suitcase up from the basement.

Since I'm in a vacation state of mind (which will make today's seminar really fun), I thought I'd share the favorites from my suitcase.

Swim Cover Up - I fell in love with this when I saw Fancy Ashley wearing it all summer long. I ordered it when it was on MAJOR sale & cannot wait to wear it all vacation long!

Not Your Mother's Beach Babe Spray - yeah, my hair cannot live without this in the summer.

LOFT Sunwashed Tanks - another summertime favorite! They go perfectly with everything from bikini bottoms to dressy shorts. I wear them all. the. time.

Patterned Shorts - speaking of shorts, I can't live without all of my different patterned pairs. You can check some them out here, and here, or scroll through my Instagram

And while this isn't going in my suitcase, it's certainly going in my grocery cart as soon as we get to Myrtle...

Skinny Cow Cookie Dough Bars - I'm currently obsessed with them. If you haven't tried them, or their equally delicious counterpart, Salted Caramel Pretzel, you must.

The batteries in our keyboard died overnight! Thus... you're getting an iPhone post for the time being...

jeans - J.Crew // sandals - Gap // tank - H&M // watch - Coach
My outfit for a workshop last Thursday... super simple, but I got fancy & threw some braids in my hair. Seriously people, that's pretty huge for me. The problem with my curly hair though, is that you can't even tell unless you're very close to me! It's the effort that counts though, right?

dress - Loft // sandals - American Eagle // watch - Coach // necklace - Nordstrom
This dress was worn for dinner with two of my besties on Friday night, then again for the first night of my Middle School Prep class. It's crazy comfy & easily dressed up or down. I'm just kicking myself that I didn't buy it earlier!

shorts - Gap // sandals - Forever 21 // tank - Marshal's
bracelets - Alex & Ani // necklace - Francesca's
This is what I wore to run errands with Ella on Saturday. You can't beat a pair of cut offs & a tank top!

Sperry's // shorts - Old Navy // shirt - Gap // necklace - Nordstrom // watch - Coach
And yesterday, I was feeling super preppy, so I broke out my Sperry's & my new peach button down. Outfits like this make me feel ready to transition to fall... but then I snap out of it & refocus on packing for the beach next week!

Snapshots from the Weekend

I'm not going to lie y'all... I'm in a very weird place right now. Half of me is crazy busy prepping to go back to school, while other half is crazy busy prepping for our vacation next week. Oh, and I was a single parent all weekend... seriously, every single parent deserves a medal. Thus, I'm going share our weekend in photos. It's all I can muster right now folks.

Friday Favorites

Happy Friday! I spent yesterday sitting in professional development seminars, so my brain is fried. I'm just not in that mode right now. So, I'm keeping it simple today & sharing a few of my favorite things right now...

1 - Yankee Candle's Juicy Peach

buy it here

This has been my go-to summer scent this year & as much as I love the smell of apple pie, I'm going to have a really hard time giving it up! It just screams summer to me. I'll be keeping my eyes open for it at the outlets while on vacation so I can stock up!

2 - Flamingo Phone Case

buy it here
I was looking for something completely unrelated, and somehow stumbled upon this flamingo print phone case. I really want to buy it, but it just seems too summery to purchase going into fall. What do you guys think? Really need feedback before I start impulse buying...

3 - Kate Spade Studs

buy it here
I almost bought the teardrop studs during Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale, but held off because I knew that I really wanted the traditional square ones in navy blue. I'm hoping that they'll have them at the Kate Spade outlet in Myrtle, but if they don't, I'll be pulling the trigger & purchasing them for fall. After all, I wear Ranger Blue & Gold A LOT this time of year...

4 - Pink Campus Pant

One day last week, I was stuck at cheer camp & freezing. I had a quick break, not long enough to run home, so I decided to make a sprint to the mall. I'd seen a ton of my kids wearing new Pink sweatpants & I loved them because they actually had the band at the bottom! I've been waiting for that to make a comeback! Then, I had a coupon too! So... don't be surprised if you see me living in these this fall.

5 - Finding New Blogs

I've been branching out & reading a bunch of new blogs lately! Many of them are teaching related, but I'm also obsessed with Young House Love too. If only Eric & I were that creative...

What I Wore - Summer Casual

One of the greatest perks of teacher life is the fact that my entire summer wardrobe is summer casual. I don't have to worry about keeping it work appropriate. I get to keep it casual & comfy every day. With that said, I've come a long way over the past year with accessorizing to make even my comfiest outfits pulled together. Both of these outfits are very basic, but looked pulled together thanks to a little jewelry & cute sandals. I'm almost embraced to admit this, but I used to be addicted to Old Navy flip flops - just the fact that I've given my sandal collection a major overhaul in the past two years has done wonders for my wardrobe!

What We've Been Up To...

Let me just start by saying Thank God I am not going back to work today! Seeing so many of my blog friends heading back to their classrooms today makes me happy that I work in New York for once... of course I wasn't singing the same tune when I was still working after Memorial Day.

I already told you guys that I spent Saturday fulfilling my MOH duties, but what I didn't share is that my parents came back to Rochester with us Saturday night to spend some time with Miss Ella! We absolutely love when they're here, so Ella was pumped when she woke up from her nap Saturday afternoon & saw her Gramps!

The men were busy golfing Sunday, so us ladies headed to Park Ave Festival! This happens to be the last of Rochester's summer festival line up & it's one of our faves. I bought Miss Ella some adorable hair bows from a local vendor, which she graciously modeled for you all...

shirt - Gymboree // shorts - Gap // sandals - Gap

And my mom & sister bought new hand woven beach bags for our upcoming trip to Myrtle.

We had planned to go out to eat with some of our family friends after the festival too, but Ella just wasn't up to it, so we ended up chilling out at home instead.

she insists on holding my mom's hand, even when she's in her stroller

Yesterday, we continued on with our chilling, because homegirl just wasn't 100%. Which was just perfect {sarcasm} since we had her 2 year appointment in the afternoon. Everything looked perfect & she took her shots like a champ! A prick in each arm & she barely batted an eye!
totally obsessed with her bandaid
Other than said appointment & a quick stop at Wegmans, we spent the rest of the night at home. We grilled dinner & went for a family walk - which is basically our summer routine. I'll really miss it when we're back to school & I'm coaching until 7 p.m. every night.

Like I said, I'm just soaking it all in & staying grateful that I'm not back in my classroom quite yet. But... I will be in professional development later this week - a reminder that my own days are limited too...

Pinspired by Aqua & Hot Pink

This month's edition of Get Pinspired is a little different than my norm. I wasn't inspired by any one particular outfit. In fact, it wasn't an outfit that inspired me at all. It was a bunch of home photos, particularly nurseries, done in aqua & hot pink! I absolutely fell in love with the combination & decided that since I'm in no mood to redecorate, I'll translate it into an outfit instead. This is what I came up with...
shorts - Target (old) // sandals - Gap (old) // sweater - J.Crew Factory (old)
watch - Coach // necklace - Nordstrom
I wore this outfit on Saturday to go menu tasting for my sister's upcoming wedding. The lightweight sweater was perfect for the air conditioned environment, but the bright colors screamed summer. We ate a ton of delicious food & finally finalized the food for both her rehearsal dinner & reception. It was way too many decisions for a Saturday, but she's really happy that it's all taken care of, and that's what really matters. I'll be back tomorrow with a recap of our Sunday at Park Ave Festival!

Thank God That's Over...

It has been a beast of a week around here! It started last weekend with Ella's birthday party preparations & finally started to get back to normal last night when cheer camp came to a close. Ella was at her grandma's house on Monday & Tuesday, while I was putting in 14 hour days for cheer. Thankfully Wednesday & Thursday were only 10 hour days, so Ella went to her normal babysitter, Miss Jennie. I swear, everyone breathed a huge sigh of relief last night as we were able to eat dinner together & take a long family walk. Normal never felt so good...

And since the weather has been unseasonably cool & rainy all week too, Ella & I are headed to embrace the sunshine at my friend's pool today! I can't think of a better way to spend a Friday! Have a great weekend everyone!
