Running Doesn't Lie

I still find it hard to believe that I fell in love with running. I think I documented my passion thoroughly throughout my training, but today I am going to tell you why running is the most honest sport I've found.

Running doesn't lie. You can't hide things from your run. If you've been slacking off, your run will let you know. Your love handles will bounce a little more than usual. Your thighs might run or you might just generally feel jiggly. You can't hide slacking off by throwing on a maxi dress. Your run knows better.

If you've been eating like shit, your run is going to let you know. Bacon cheeseburger & fries for lunch? Your run is going to hurt. Salad with grilled chicken & a roll for lunch? You'll feel like a rock star. Running doesn't sugarcoat your food choices. It tells it like it is.

Have you been killing it at the gym & eating clean? Your run will love you - a pat on the back for a job well done. I've had runs like this & you suddenly hit 5 miles and don't even feel like stopping. These runs are amazing.

On that note... my runs have been mediocre lately. But mediocre is the exact word I'd use to describe my eating & training. I thought of this post while running last night, and realized I miss those amazing & effortless runs. While training, I would bust out 3 miles like a rock star. Lately, they've been a struggle. It could be the heat & humidity - more likely my run is telling me the truth. It's time to get back to business. There aren't any holidays to distract me. I'm home & able to cook healthy meals every day. It's game time bitches.

  1. I LOVE this reason! It's so true. There's no way of sneaking anything past the run. It knows and punishes (or rewards!) accordingly. Thanks for linking up and swapping buttons. You? Are the best. :)

  3. This is so true! My husband and I rarely eat fast food, but when we do, I definitely notice because I feel like crap during a run. Ain't no lie. Glad you linked up!

  4. This is so true!! I struggle through runs when I fall off the healthy eating wagon. My run is always there to smack me in the face and tell me to wake up!

  5. This post is so true! I always have the worst runs after food splurging and mess up my running cycle because I get so frustrated.

  6. Great post, Bri! It is simple but true - I just wrote a blog post about maintaining fitness on vacation, and that is one definite place where it is easy to try to fool yourself! But how you eat, how you keep yourself active, ALL of it comes out when you run.

  7. After reading this post yesterday, I got up and out for a run before work today. Whew. It was tough but necessary, and hopefully will continue to occur. Thanks for the inspiration!

  8. So true! NOTHING WORSE than running after a heavy meal, too much wine the night before, or having not drank enough water. Eesh. Just feeling that bad while running is enough motivation to eat better! GREAT reason!
