Confession Friday - I Love McDonald's

One of my main goals in 2013 is to eat out less and make more healthful meals at home. This includes my weekly goal of packing my lunch as often as possible. This is a HUGE deal for me. When I was pregnant last year, I was the queen of take out lunches. My hubs let it slide & never criticized what I was eating or how much it was costing us. (He's smart like that.) But now that I take ownership for my eating habits and we have another mouth to feed, I'm monitoring myself.

With that said... I still love McDonald's. I know what you're thinking. French Fries. Cheeseburgers. McFlurries. No - I don't eat that stuff anymore. Trust me, I used to. The 10 piece McNugget was my pregnancy go to. But one of those 10 pieces has 460 calories in them! Not to mention the medium fry that I got to go with it! A meal easily had 900 calories.
bye bye nuggets!
Today, my McDonald's meals are far healthier. Right now, I'm enjoying a Bacon Ranch salad. I got it with crispy chicken, but it's still only 370 calories plus 100 for the dressing. That puts me under my 500 calorie lunch allowance. I do the same amount of damage with a sandwich, chips, cheese stick, and fiber bar. Plus, I feel like I've treated myself.

I really love that McDonald's posts the calorie count of their items right on the menu board, even in the drive thru. As I was sitting there & examining my options, I realized that there are actually quite a few things I could have under 500 calories. I'm still going to limit my trips, but I think it's important to examine the stigma associated with good ole Mickey D's. People are responsible for what they put in their mouths, not restaurants. In my opinion, McDonald's is doing their part by posting the information. Consumers have to do their part and eat responsibly.
I had to resist putting these bad boys on my salad
today, at 60 calories - they aren't worth it!

What is your favorite meal at McDonald's?

  1. I am not nuts about McD's food, but their mochas have me hooked. They are nothing but sugar and caffeine but oh are they good!!

    1. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I've heard the same thing from a lot of my co-workers. They said it's awful because they'll go through with the intention of just a mocha & end up with a cinnamelt too!
